Mistral 7B v0.2

Mistral AI released Mistral 7B v0.2, an open-source language model with notable upgrades, including an expanded context window and a new architecture featuring 7.3 billion parameters and Grouped-Query Attention. It outperforms similar models like Llama-2 13B across multiple benchmarks and is designed for various applications, from conversational AI to coding tasks. Released under the Apache 2.0 license, Mistral 7B v0.2 is accessible for research and development, emphasizing its role in facilitating AI advancements across various sectors.

Databricks DBRX

Databricks has released DBRX, an open-source large language model that outperforms existing models like Meta's Llama 2. Developed with a $10 million investment, DBRX showcases superior performance in general knowledge, reading comprehension, and code generation benchmarks. This release under an open-source license aims to promote innovation by making advanced AI technology accessible to a broader range of users and industries. DBRX's introduction reflects Databricks' commitment to transparency and collaboration in AI, offering a significant research and application development resource.

Jamba

AI21 Labs released Jamba, a language model merging Transformer and structured state space modeling (SSM) architectures designed for higher efficiency and speed. Unlike traditional models, Jamba can process extended contexts of up to 256,000 tokens, significantly outperforming models like the Mixtral 8x7B Transformer in speed by processing approximately 1,600 tokens per second. This hybrid model utilizes 12 billion of its total 52 billion parameters for inference, making it uniquely capable of handling up to 140,000 token contexts on a single 80GB GPU. Jamba has been made available under the Apache 2.0 open-source license by AI21 Labs, with an Instruct version and integration into Nvidia's API catalog planned, emphasizing its potential for broad application and further development within the AI field.

Grok 1.5

X AI, Elon Musk's AI startup, announced the upcoming release of Grok-1.5, an AI chatbot to enhance user interaction on the X social network. Grok-1.5 surpasses its predecessor with significant improvements in reasoning and an ability to process up to 128,000 tokens, facilitating longer and more complex conversations. This model distinguishes itself by tackling a wide range of subjects, including controversial topics, setting a new standard in AI chat technology. Scheduled for early access on X, Grok-1.5 also hints at integrating new features, such as thread summarization and content suggestions, for an enriched user experience.

Samba-CoE v0.2

SambaNova Systems has unveiled its Samba-CoE v0.2 Large Language Model, achieving a groundbreaking speed of 330 tokens per second, surpassing competitors like Databricks DBRX and Elon Musk's xAI Grok-1. Notable for its efficiency, the model operates on just eight sockets, a fraction of the resources others require. This advancement demonstrates SambaNova's leadership in AI innovation, leveraging open-source models for scalable and efficient computing. With a strong foundation in AI and a significant market valuation, SambaNova is set to continue its trajectory as a formidable player in the AI industry.
